Safe Travel

TUI as reliable partner

Like no other form of travel, a package holiday offers peace of mind with the highest consumer protection standards. We are always there for our guests from booking to the journey home, with our own teams in almost all holiday destinations. And we want to keep it that way. To ensure fair competition with the large platform providers, a level playing field is needed instead of unilaterally imposing further burdens on package tour operators.

TUI Group offers highest safety standards

With our professional crisis management and innovative safety standards, we set standards in the tourism industry – and respond immediately in emergencies. Two examples: during the first coronavirus closure in March 2020, TUI flew around 200,000 holidaymakers home. And summer 2023: Large forest fires rage on Rhodes. TUI quickly evacuated around 8,000 guests and organised special flights back to Germany.

The TUI Group stands for:
  • Professional security management: TUI's crisis management team monitors all worldwide destinations around the clock. An automatic warning system alerts our team in the event of natural disasters, strikes, political unrest or epidemics. The team classifies events at an early stage and prepares measures. Holidaymakers are informed and, in extreme cases, returned home. The team is authorised to make decisions and can act within a few minutes.
  • Care: Holidaymakers receive a 24-hour care service via the TUI app and in person on site. TUI is always the direct contact, whether it's a matter of rebooking, excursions or doctor's appointments at the holiday destination. Around 8,500 people are employed in more than 100 destinations worldwide.

Adapting the EU Package Travel Directive

Package travellers already enjoy the highest level of protection today. To ensure that the gold standard among forms of travel remains attractive and affordable, the next German government must advocate the following points in the reform of the EU Package Travel Directive (PTD): There must be no additional burdens for customers and companies, advance payments must remain possible, insolvency protection must be regulated efficiently and a level playing field must be established in competition with platform providers.
