What is special about Cyprus?

Cyprus boasts stunning beaches, hidden coves, the clearest waters and jaw dropping views of the Mediterranean Sea that take your breath away. Thanks to its mighty mountain range it is even possible to ski in the morning, and venture to the beaches in the south in the afternoon for a spot of sunbathing, all in the same day! Alongside the wonderful nature the island has to offer, Cyprus is known for its glorious 320 days of sunshine a year which is a huge factor to its overall positive vibe. The people of Cyprus are friendly, warm and really appreciate the tourism that they receive to their island. They really make this destination special and will be the reason we return again and again.

Which beach or cultural spot would you recommend in Cyprus?

The west is home to Adonis Bath’s: a gorgeous lagoon where you can swim among nearby waterfalls and be with one in nature. The Troodos mountains is home to the Kykkos Monastery, full of wealth, spirituality and tradition set at the top of a mountain peak. And the East is home to never ending costal secrets with little coves to snorkel in where you can see huge sea turtles! And finally, the famous Cape Greco Nature Reserve – with its mind-blowing views of the sunrise, as you will be watching from the most eastern point in Europe.

What local food should visitors try in your region?

Cyprus originally designed the famous Halloumi, and it must be tasted with their famous fig jam for the ultimate experience. You must try the local meze, a collection of small dishes of souvlaki, hummus, eggplant based dishes and of course olives. Its best washed down with a glass of wine grown from their own vineyards in the valleys, or a shot of “fire water” Zivania.

What is the best experience in Cyprus?

What I highly recommend is visiting the “Tombs of Kings” situated in Pafos. Imagine yourself surrounded by ancient Egyptian tombs in a dessert-like landscape with the waves of the nearby ocean whispering ancient secrets. There are seven tombs to explore, but Tomb no.3 is especially magnificent boasting a huge atrium like building to wander through, lined by grand columns to provide the structure. The tombs were used during the 3rd century BC to 3rd century AD and are absolutely worth visiting to see some of Cyprus’s true ancient history.

What is your favourite TUI-excursion in Cyprus?

Our favourite TUI-excursion is our TUI Collection Cyprus Villages and Food tour, an experience to take you into the heart of what makes Cyprus the amazing destination it is. Set in the glorious mountains, you can visit the Machairas Monastery of gorgeous views and set at 900m above sea level. You can wander the streets of the tiny villages away from the bustling cities and soak up the laidback culture of this part of the island. Even having the opportunity to make the famous halloumi and pitta bread, grown and cultured in these areas, all washed down with a glass of the award-winning Cypriot wine of the region – the Ktima Dafermou. A perfect day to experience the real Cyprus.

Did you know …

… that Cyprus is one of just two republics and the first in the world to include its map on its flag?
