Season’s greetings from Talay the turtle! Talay is on a maritime journey in the Mediterranean Sea which is being tracked by satellite as part of the TUI Turtle Aid programme, one of the TUI Care Foundation’s key environmental programmes which focuses on turtle welfare and conservation.
Talay is a green sea turtle aged between 15-20 years old, who was rescued by the TUI Care Foundation’s partner DEKAMER, having swallowing a fishing line and other plastics in the sea. After nine months of treatment at DEKAMER’s rescue centre in Dalyan, Turkey, our intrepid teenage turtle was back to full health and released into the sea again.
Tracking Talay by satellite helps to provide a better understanding of the migration and feeding patterns of the under-researched juvenile green sea turtle. So far Talay has travelled an incredible 300km since June and is currently close to the Turkish shore in the southeastern Aegean Sea. You can follow Talay’s progress on the TUI Care Foundation website here.
And if you’re interested in turtle protection, why not do something TURTLEY amazing and adopt a turtle through the TUI Turtle Aid programme. It’s a great gift idea!
