Cretan Malia Park scoops Best Hotel Overall Sustainability Award

Earlier this week the annual TUI Global Hotel Awards ceremony took place in Berlin. Sustainability was once again at the forefront. The new award categories reflect our recently published Sustainability Agenda and include People, Planet, and Progress, highlighting the award winners' contributions to sustainability efforts within these areas. We also had one overall winner, chosen from these category winners.

The winners in these categories were selected by an external committee and judged according to uniquely set criteria. We would like to thank the panel; Randy Durband, CEO GSTC, Andreas Koch from blueContec, Rebecca Hawkins & Michelle Rowe from RHP for their commitment and hard work.

This year we also gave out a special Sustainability Innovation Award.

The winner!

Cretan Malia Park Hotel was awarded both our Best Hotel Sustainability People Award and the Best Hotel Sustainability Overall Award for its participation in the Phāea Farmers Program. Eleven hotel employees are currently involved in the innovative programme, which enables them to train and work as organic farmers in the low season, and then in the hotel during the tourism season.

This gives the employees a year-round income and provides the hotel with high quality local produce it can use in its F&B operations, including olive oil, honey, fruit and vegetables. Truly innovative and “circular” thinking!
