TUI CEO Sebastian Ebel has visited Rhodes today to get a clear picture on the ground and to thank our colleagues for their hard work over the past days. He also met holidaymakers staying on the island, partners from the tourism industry as well as authorities and the Government of South Aegean Region – namely George Hatzimarkos, the Governor of South Aegean Region and the government's crisis board including virtual attendance by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
During a ten-hour tour to several spots across the island, he got a clear picture of the situation on the ground.
Ebel: “A huge thank you to all colleagues working day and night to keep our guests safe – but also to the firefighters and volunteers joining in to help. To me, it was very helpful to visit Rhodes today, to talk to our guests, tourists and colleagues to understand the situation a lot better. Rhodes is a big island and the differences between the North and the wildfire-affected South are striking – the distance from the North to the South is around 80 kilometers. We want to underline the long-term support of the island in cooperation with the local authorities on Rhodes and the South Aegean region. Especially in this terrible situation, we stand by our teams, partners and friends.“
Over 300 service colleagues continue to take care of the safety of TUI guests, providing them with replacement accommodation, food and drinks. The situation on the ground is still evolving and changing and is being regularly reassessed by the travel group.
