Life as a Graduate – Matthew Keogh guides us through his first month at TUI Airline
Week 1: Induction Week in Hanover
Matthew's adventure began with a mix of apprehension and excitement, boarding a plane to Hanover to commence his TUI experience: “On my journey over to Hanover I remember thinking how this was the start of a new chapter and I asked myself several questions – it was a real complexity of emotions and change. Yet, upon meeting my fellow graduates, a sense of belonging swiftly emerged. In this unique group, we found unity, forming our own TUI family in just one day.”
Matthew added that a remarkable highlight of the week was the visit to HAJ airport, where he got shown around, visiting the fire and rescue teams, showcasing their advanced equipment and unwavering commitment. Witnessing a TUI aircraft taxiing after landing added a perfect touch to the day.
Some days after he visited the new Hanover Campus, where he got the opportunity to have a look at the brand new office space and connected with colleagues. Happy and fulfilled after his first week, Matthew says: “The week showcased the vast developmental opportunities for graduates within TUI, with experienced colleagues generously sharing their expertise and knowhow.”
Week 2: At the TUI Airline E&M Conference in Palma de Mallorca
During this week, Matthew got a better understanding of TUI Airline E&M's ambitious mission of working stronger, smarter and faster in the most cost-efficient and sustainable way. It gave him “a perfect baseline in how his work should be conducted over his first 6-month placement.” He added: “I felt extremely fortunate to meet all colleagues in an increasingly virtual world learning from many others. Continuing with the openness theme, the stop, start, continue method allowed depth discussions about how progression could happen in the most effective ways was extremely useful.”
To sum his second week up: Under the Spanish sunshine, Matthew got invaluable insights into the full TUI Airline E&M team and their ambitions.
Week 3: Visit of the UK&I Headquarter
After the eventful preceding two weeks, it was time for Matthew to embrace TUI's values in his own work, using both the flexible working methods as well as visiting the office location at Wigmore House to resolve the standard IT queries. What stood out most for him was the friendliness of his colleagues, each smile reinforcing the welcoming TUI vibe.
Week 4: Insights into the Belgian Headquarters
Matthew's fourth week not only included meetings, but it also offered him a glimpse into the inner workings of TUI Airline E&M’s Continental Hub. Meeting the Belgian colleagues reaffirmed the organization's friendliness and team spirit. Engaging in team-building exercises with colleagues and a TUI fly BE Indian Summer Barbecue further intensified the sense of community.
And now… the flight continues!
As Matthew's first month comes to a close, he is grateful and says: “I firstly want to thank all colleagues who I have met over the past month who have made me feel welcomed, valued and supported – It has been a pleasure. But more importantly is looking forward, as this is just the start and I’m excited to see where the next two years will take me.”
Stay tuned for the continued journey of Matthew and other colleagues as they explore the world of aviation and TUI Airline E&M.
