With one in every nine people in Egypt working in tourism, many of those are employed in Hurghada’s bars, restaurants and hotels. Their livelihoods depend on the tourists who head to the Red Sea Riviera every year, for its guaranteed sunshine and golden beaches.
So when the planes stopped landing and the streets became silent because of the Corona crisis, putting food on the table became problematic for the many people in Hurghada whose incomes disappeared overnight.
But with the help of the TUI Care Foundation’s Corona relief activities, food supplies have been provided to families in need to help them get through. Supported by the TUI team on the ground, over 600 food bags and 500 meals have been distributed in the local community to those who need them most. This means that more than 1000 adults and 1500 children have received essential items to help them get through.
Markus Malak explains in this video how he and the team have been helping. We can’t thank them enough for all their support!
