There’s a lot more to Cape Verdean island Sal than meets the eye. Its beautiful sandy beaches, intriguing Portuguese history and incredible volcanic landscape add to the fabulous holiday feel of this sunny island off the Senegalese coast.
But right now, Sal is like a ship without its sail. The Corona crisis has brought the tourism economy to a standstill and it’s not easy for the local people who usually work in it to weather the storm. Without their jobs and with no money coming in, making ends meet isn’t easy.
So as part of its Corona relief activities the TUI Care Foundation has joined forces with the non-profit CSD Foundation to support the most vulnerable communities on the island. CSD stands for Co-creative, Social Design and the Foundation aims to optimise sustainable tourism, entrepreneurship and education to help empower the island’s communities.
Over the last few months, and with the valuable help of TUI colleagues on the ground in Sal too, 1000 food bags have been delivered to help 4000 people get the essential supplies they need. And with more to come, the work continues to support as many families as possible.
